A construction of a unique object named Stad Ship Tunnel will allow vessels to avoid sea areas, difficult for passing, along Norway coast.
Project price is 315 million US dollars. The tunnel is planned to be constructed in 3-4 years.
The beginning of construction works is planned at the end of 2018. The construction of the first navigable tunnel in the world will begin at the narrowest point of the Stad peninsula.
The construction will be conducted with a regular drilling-and-blasting method. The height of the tunnel will be 37 meters, with the width of more than 26 meters. The tunnel is for vessels with the draft which isn’t exceeding 12 meters.
Passing the tunnel will be open for both cargo and passenger ships.
