The Greek shipping community has criticized for many times the Greek administration for not accepting the possible benefits which the shipping industry suggests to the stressed Greek economy and the last outline of the Greek fleet adds its influence.
While the current tax problems and economic difficulties the increasing of the armada controlled by Greeks increases and at the beginning of spring reached its highest levels.
The fleet of vessels which are more than 1.000 gt at the beginning of spring included 4.084 of 329 m DWT 192.4m gt vessels, only 7 vessels 1 year ago, but some 8.16 m DWT and 3.52 m gt more.
The statistics show 196 ships of 20.6 m DWT and 12.34 m gt on order from shipyards all over the world according to the information collected for the 30th year by the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee (GSCC) based in London.
On the other hand, the home flag fleet decreased in all categories, the Greek flag is over 747 75.21 m DWT and 43.71 m gt vessels, a considerable loss of 62 vessels of 3.74 m DWT and 2.34 m gt for this year.
Actually, Greek flag is number three of homeowners with the armada registered under 41 flags, led by the Marshall Islands which had a growth of 74 vessels for these 12 months, as Liberia which had a growth of 31 vessels. Cyprus had a growth of 13 vessels and Malta 4 in general as the Greek, a reduction for all other flags.
In particular, the Greek mother companies are 25.2% of the world tanker fleet and 16.2% of ore and bulk fleet. In general, the Greek fleet includes 7.6% of 13.7% gt and 16.2% DWT vessels in the world.
Typical age of the fleet controlled by Greeks grew a little, but, however, continues to be for 2.9 years below the world average age which is 10.3 years. In terms of gt it is 8.7 years and 8.6 years in terms of DWT.
Speaking about classification the Greek fleet of LR includes 834 vessels (856 vessels previous year); ABS: 768 vessels (779 in 2016); ClassNK: 744 vessels (732 in 2016); BV: 688 vessels (681 in 2016); DNV Group: 668 vessels, in comparison with 702 vessels in 2016, and RINA 191 vessels, a growth in a year of 26 vessels. Speaking about the Greek flag fleet, LR has 223 vessels (261 in 2016); ABS 207 vessels (211 in 2016); DNV Group 117 vessels (130 in 2016); RINA 80 vessels (78 in 2016); BV 66 vessels,(77 in 2016), and ClassNK 20 vessels, 5 down in comparison with a previous year.
