Irish seafarer rescued after three hours in the water off Odesa

Near the coast of Odesa, rescuers pulled from the sea a seafarer who had managed to reach the shore after falling overboard, the Odesa Regional Military Administration reported on September 29.

The rescued was a 27-year-old Irish national, a crew member of a private vessel. He said that he fell from the vessel and spent more than three hours battling the waves in the open sea before managing to reach a breakwater, where rescuers spotted him.

Medical teams diagnosed hypothermia and hospitalized him for treatment.

Odesa RMA emphasized that the case serves as a reminder of how public vigilance, prompt response by rescuers, and professional medical care can save lives.
