A collision between a bulk carrier and a container vessel occurred on 25 October 2025 near the Mayoushi Lightship in the Lingding Channel, off Guangzhou, China. The Chinese-flagged bulker Haili 5 sank following the collision. Thirteen crew members have been rescued, while two remain missing.
The Singapore-flagged Wan Hai A17 reported no injuries or pollution. All 23 crew members are safe, and the vessel remains in port to assist Chinese authorities with the investigation.
Authorities have set temporary traffic controls in the channel. Vessels transiting the area are instructed to follow VTS guidance and maintain safe distances.
Search and rescue operations for the two missing Haili 5 crew members continue. Both the Maritime Safety Administration of China and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore are coordinating efforts and investigating the incident.
