A cargo shift on ferry Hamnavoe damaged five vehicles while the ship sailed from Stromness to Scrabster, United Kingdom, on 22 October 2025. No passengers or crew were injured.
The ferry operator, Serco NorthLink Ferries, reported that the affected vehicles included three cars and two vans. The incident caused a starboard list, but Hamnavoe continued to Scrabster under its own power. Passengers and undamaged vehicles disembarked safely. No structural damage was reported, and the vessel returned to service later the same day.
The crew carried out a full assessment on board. The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has conducted preliminary enquiries and will decide whether a formal investigation is required. No pollution was reported.
Hamnavoe is a 2002-built Ro-Ro passenger ship, measuring 112 meters in length, 18.5 meters in width, with a gross tonnage of 8,780. It sails under the UK flag.
