French shipping giant CMA CGM has placed an order in China for six 22,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships, with options for four additional units, Offshore Energy reports.
The newbuilds will be constructed at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC), part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2029. Each vessel is reported to cost between $205 million and $210 million.
CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container carrier, continues to scale up its green fleet strategy. Earlier this year, the company ordered twelve dual-fuel LNG boxships worth nearly $2.6 billion from Jiangnan Shipyard in China, alongside a $2.57 billion contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea for additional dual-fuel tonnage.
With more than 680 ships already in operation and a total capacity exceeding 4 million TEU, the latest order further underlines CMA CGM’s commitment to decarbonisation and expanding its position in the global container shipping market.
