French shipping giant CMA CGM is expanding its presence in Saudi Arabia. The company has signed a term sheet for a joint venture with Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) to build and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port. The total planned investment for the project is up to $450 million.
The agreement outlines plans for a 2.6 million TEU terminal. It will operate independently next to RSGT’s existing facilities. The project will be developed under a sub-concession within RSGT’s long-term framework with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
The new facility will handle the world’s largest containerships. It will feature next-generation equipment and digital systems. These upgrades aim to boost efficiency and sustainability.
Once complete, Terminal 4 will increase Jeddah’s annual handling capacity to 8.8 million TEU. The terminal will reinforce the port’s status as a regional gateway connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa. It will also deepen CMA CGM’s footprint in the Red Sea region.
