A passenger ferry and a chemical tanker collided off Singapore’s Southern Islands on Monday evening, prompting an immediate emergency response but leaving all passengers and crew unharmed.

According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the locally-registered fast catamaran ferry Horizon 9 was approaching the pier at the HarbourFront Centre mall when it struck the Indonesia-bound, Marshall Islands-flagged chemical tanker La Digue.

MPA immediately deployed a patrol vessel to escort the ferry back to port, ensuring the safe disembarkation of all 165 passengers and seven crew members. Despite the damage to its bow above the waterline, the 39-meter Horizon 9 remained seaworthy and operational during its return to shore.

The 183-meter tanker La Digue reported no structural damage or pollution, and operations in Singapore’s busy port waters were not affected. MPA has launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
