The world’s first methanol-powered IMO II chemical bunker tanker, Maya Cosulich, has been launched at Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding in China. The vessel was ordered by Italy’s Fratelli Cosulich Group and is intended to support the development of methanol bunkering infrastructure in Singapore – the world’s leading marine fuel hub.
Designed by SeaTech Solutions International, the 7,990 dwt Maya Cosulich is equipped with diesel-electric propulsion, onboard battery storage, and two mass flow meters compliant with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s methanol bunkering standards. Its coated cargo tanks allow the transport of both green methanol and biofuels, supporting the industry’s shift to low-carbon energy sources.
The vessel will be operated by Fratelli Cosulich Marine Energy and technically managed by Fratelli Cosulich Bunkers Singapore. Upon her arrival in Singapore at the end of 2025, Maya Cosulich will begin service under a long-term time charter with TFG Marine – the global bunkering joint venture between Trafigura, Frontline, and Golden Ocean.
A sister ship to Maya Cosulich, Anna Cosulich, is already being built in China and will add to Singapore’s expanding methanol bunkering fleet.
