Houthis expand threats by tracking Israel-linked shipping via AIS data

Yemen’s Houthi militants have intensified their campaign against Israel-linked maritime trade, revealing they are actively tracking commercial vessels operating between Israel, Egypt, and Turkey using AIS tracking systems.

In a new online statement, the Houthis named nine ships that reportedly called at Israeli ports. Among them were the container ships MSC Oscar, MSC Tuxpan, Maersk Narmada, Marla Tiger, and YM Winner, bulk carriers Aquis Perla, Neco K, Pardus and Halo, as well as the cement carrier Nova Coralia and the car carrier Lider Bulut. The group claims these vessels operated routes between Israeli ports and terminals in Turkey and Egypt.

The Houthis warned that any vessel associated with Israel remains a target – regardless of flag or operator. The militants specifically mentioned companies like Maersk and MSC, accusing them of violating the group’s so-called “blockade” of Israeli ports.

The announcement follows deadly attacks in July, when the Magic Seas and Eternity C bulk carriers were sunk. The Houthis claimed both were targeted due to links with Israeli trade. Since then, threats have widened to include the managers of the affected ships and their fleets.

As a result of the escalating danger, most carriers continue to avoid the Red Sea.
