India to boost domestic cruise industry

It is usually estimated that on the average a cruise traveler spends about US$200-300 in addition to a cruise staff/officer consumes about US$100-150 per port visit.

Cruise tourism is usually a high-end luxury traveler segment of tourism industry. Cruise businesses augment regional monetary activities as commercial opportunities arise for source for provisions, transport, accommodations, bunkering etc. to cruise liners which create direct employment in addition to indirect employment. The regional economy also gains from the spending by cruise trip tourists during land activities.

Also the following important actions have been taken:

  1. Key ports give a minimum discount of 30% across the board to cruise boats on all vessel related charges (port dues, pilotage and berth hire) from the notified scale of rates.
  2. To draw cruise liners to help to make major ports as home ports, the ports provide a refund of 25% in ship related charges for coastal cruise movement. It is in addition to the 40% current discount with regard to coastal ships. Further, walk-in berthing/preferential berthing is provided to cruise vessels in home port with no additional charge.
