Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) is continuing its fleet renewal program with the introduction of its latest 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership.
The newbuild, part of the company’s O Class series, was officially named Kota Odyssey on September 17 during a ceremony at the Port of Tema, Ghana – a first-ever naming event for PIL in the country.
By naming Kota Odyssey in Ghana, PIL highlighted both its commitment to sustainable shipping and its growing role in strengthening trade between Asia and West Africa.
The vessel will be deployed on the South West Africa Service (SWS), connecting China, Singapore, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire through a direct weekly service.
The O Class vessels are designed with advanced green technologies. They are capable of operating on bio-methane fuels and equipped with Win-GD’s XDF engines with iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling), significantly reducing methane emissions. Their ammonia intermediate-ready fuel tanks prepare them for future alternative fuels.
Efficiency is further enhanced by a full-spade type rudder with twisted leading edge, rudder bulb, pre-swirl stator, and an optimised hydrodynamic hull form with anti-fouling coatings. In addition, AI and IoT systems improve automation, safety, and real-time monitoring.
