Princess Cruises has officially taken delivery of its second dual-fuel liquefied natural gas cruise ship, Star Princess, from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The vessel was handed over at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard, the company’s largest facility for cruise ship construction, on September 26.
Measuring 345 meters in length and 47 meters in width with a gross tonnage of 178,000 GT, Star Princess is now the second-largest cruise ship ever built in Italy. It is the second ship in Fincantieri’s Sphere class series for Princess Cruises and the 17th vessel in the cruise line’s global fleet. The ship accommodates up to 4,300 passengers along with 1,600 crew members.
Built on a next-generation platform, Star Princess incorporates advanced systems designed to improve energy efficiency. Powered by LNG, the vessel is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 20–30%.
Following delivery, Star Princess will sail to Barcelona to embark on an 11-night inaugural Western Mediterranean voyage starting October 4.
Over the past months, Fincantieri has also progressed on other LNG-powered cruise projects, including deliveries for TUI Cruises, Viking, and MSC, further solidifying its position as a global leader in sustainable cruise ship construction.
