Seaspan and its seafarers: friendly football match

On May 14, Seaspan representatives held a football tournament in Odessa among seafarers and the company’s employees. And even drizzling rain did not spoil anyone’s mood. This year’s football game attracted about 40 people, who were divided into 8 teams of 5 people. Altogether, the seafarers played 5 matches.

“The main purpose was to bring people together to help us work together for our common goals. It is not about winning; it’s about working together and being more successful. It doesn’t matter whether you are at sea or working in the office our objective is the same.

Football is a good team sport that requires a team effort. Lots of people play football and we even have professional and former football players among our seafarers. Last time it was 25 degrees and the sun was shining and there were about 80 people. Today the weather was more unpredictable and we had about 40 people present. Taking into account the weather it is quite good. We will definitely come back and play again and have some fun with our colleagues”, Erik Nielsen said.

According to Illia Kudinov, regional crewing representative of Seaspan in Ukraine, the main purpose of the game was a desire that everyone could talk to each other, run together, and chase the ball.

“The important thing is teamwork. We are glad that everyone ran and played, because I know what it’s like to work on ships, on these iron boxes, but here they have been able to have a diversion and be physically active. It was originally my idea to arrange such matches, and we see that the idea was very successful, everyone is happy”, Mr. Kudinov noted.

The seafarers also shared their impressions of the game:

Sergei Petrov, Chief Engineer: “Impressions of the match are very good. Everything went great! It was very interesting to talk, meet with those I work with, and kick the ball. I would like to get together and play more often. These things rally the company with its seafarers very much.”

Konstantin Biryukov, Third Officer: “I really liked the game. The struggle was fierce. All played perfectly. It is very pleasant that the company arranges such events. Despite the light rain, the mood is excellent. And at least it was not hot.”

Artur Listovoy, Deck Cadet: “I liked to take part in the game very much. Everything went perfectly. I played for the first time this year, but I hope not the last.”

Victor Cherednichenko, Engine Cadet: “I really liked the game. Thank you for such an event. I would like to meet more often and play football together.”
