International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) has launched the construction of the South Luzon Container Terminal (SLCT), a major port infrastructure project that will become the second-largest container terminal in the Philippines once completed.

The $800 million facility is being developed at Bauan International Port in Batangas province, about 110 kilometres south of Manila. The project is designed to strengthen trade infrastructure for the rapidly growing Southern Luzon region and support cargo flows linked to industrial, manufacturing and energy projects.

ICTSI said the terminal will also complement the capacity of Manila’s ports and improve overall trade facilitation across the country.

The new terminal will be located in a naturally protected cove in Batangas Bay. Once completed, it will be capable of handling ultra-large container vessels.

According to the project plan, the completed facility will feature an 800-metre quay, 38 hectares of container yard space and berth depths of up to 18 metres. The terminal is expected to achieve an annual handling capacity of more than 2 million TEU.

The first phase of the project will focus on marine works and the construction of a 425-metre quay designed for super post-Panamax container ships. Construction works are scheduled to run between May and September 2027, with delivery and installation of terminal equipment planned for August 2027.

The South Luzon Container Terminal is targeted for full completion in 2028.
