Tanker and bulk carrier collide near Singapore

A Singapore-flagged bunkering tanker and a Malta-flagged bulk carrier collided off the coast of Tanah Merah, Singapore, on Monday morning, September 1. Authorities confirmed that both vessels remained stable after the incident, with only one crew member sustaining minor injuries, Marinelink reports.

The collision involved the Marine Dynamo, an 8,270 dwt hybrid electric bunker barge, and the 56,526 dwt bulk carrier Flag Gangos, Greek-owned and registered in Malta, en route to Hambantota Port, Sri Lanka. The Marine Dynamo’s captain reported the collision at around 9:25 AM local time, noting that a service tank leak had released Marine Gas Oil (MGO) into the waters.

Authorities stated that the small fuel spill is expected to evaporate and degrade naturally, and navigational safety in the area has not been compromised.

The injured crew member aboard the Marine Dynamo received medical attention onboard, suffering only minor bruises and sprains.

While both vessels remain secure, the MPA has issued a warning to passing ships in the area as a precaution.
