Hua De 858 ran aground on December 3 on a shoal between Xiaori Island and Dasheyu Island. After the impact, the hull suffered a major structural failure and split into two sections. Photos from the scene show the vessel broken amidships.

Emergency teams arrived quickly and rescued the crew without injuries. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the grounding and the vessel’s breakup.
