For the first time from the moment of crisis decline of transshipment of containerized cargoes in Ukraine ports in 2009, rates of growth of container turnover of the port of Odessa overcame a psychological mark of 30%. So, according to the administration, there were transshipped 316 809 TEU from January to August in 2016 on berths of port that is 76 242 TEU (31,7%) that exceeds a similar indicator of eight months of last year.
The administration of the port of Odessa explains significant growth of container transfer with effect of several factors:
– efforts of the port, terminal operator companies and the state monitoring bodies on implementation of modern standards of container fleet handling, normalization of situation with terms of customs clearance at check points, and also implementation of the Ministry of UkraineResolution provisions No. 491 of 07.07.2015 about decentralization of control procedures at seaports;
– Odessa remains the unique domestic port which is called by container ships of ocean container service;
– amounts of delivery of empty containers for ensuring timely export of cargoes has grown;
– in general the Ukrainian export of goods transported in containers has grown (sunflower oil, grain crops, etc.).
Transshipment of containerized cargoes in the port of Odessa is performed on two specialized terminals – on berths of the Karantin pier No. 2,1-k, 2-k, and on the berth No. 42 of the Khlebnaya harbor. The first is operated by the German company “GPK Ukraine”, the second – “LLC Bruklin-Kiev port”. One of founders of it is the French company CMA CGM.
