Grimaldi Group received its new ammonia-ready PCTC in Shanghai this week. The vessel can carry up to 9,241 CEU and will enter service on the Asia–Europe route.

The ship, named Grande Manila, is the group’s seventh ammonia-ready PCTC and is designed for future conversion to ammonia as a zero-carbon fuel. It was built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Trading Company, both part of CSSC.

The vessel has already received the relevant class notation from RINA. It is 200 meters long, 38 meters wide, and has a gross tonnage of about 77,500 tons.

Grande Manila can carry up to 9,241 car equivalent units. Four decks are designed for heavy and high cargo, allowing the transport of units weighing up to 250 tons and measuring up to 6.5 meters in height. The vessel is intended for cars, electric vehicles, vans, and other rolling cargo.

According to the company, the design cuts the CO2 emissions index per transported cargo by up to 50 percent compared with previous-generation PCTCs, while meeting strict limits for NOx and SOx. The PCTC is also fitted for shore power during berthing, enabling low-emission port operations

The maiden voyage will begin this week from Taicang, China, on the Asia–Europe service. The first sailing will carry more than 5,800 cars and 1,300 linear meters of rolling cargo, including buses, trucks, and construction machinery.
