Höegh Autoliners welcomes sixth Aurora-class green PCTC Höegh Moonlight

Norwegian shipping company Höegh Autoliners has taken delivery of its sixth Aurora-class pure car and truck carrier (PCTC). During a naming ceremony at the Port of Gothenburg in Sweden, the vessel was officially named Höegh Moonlight. The 199.9-meter ship with a capacity of 9,100 car equivalent units (CEU) joins the company’s flagship series of 12 next-generation vessels designed for low-carbon shipping.

All Aurora-class vessels are dual-fuel LNG-powered and “ammonia-ready,” allowing for future conversion to clean ammonia fuel. The first eight LNG-powered ships are expected to cut emissions per transported car by 58% compared with the industry average, while the final four units, scheduled for delivery from 2027, will be able to operate on ammonia from day one.

Höegh Autoliners’ leadership highlighted the vessel’s role in advancing decarbonisation and sustainable shipping. The Port of Gothenburg noted that the new vessel enhances climate-smart connections to global markets and aligns with its goal to reduce carbon emissions by 70% by 2030.
