According to several broking sources, Maersk has ordered eight 18,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships from New Times Shipbuilding in China. The deal, valued at about $193 million per vessel, includes options for four additional ships. Deliveries are planned for 2028 and 2029.
The new order continues Maersk’s major fleet renewal program. It also strengthens the company’s long-term partnership with the Jiangsu-based shipyard.
Over the next four years, Maersk will take delivery of 26 LNG dual-fuel ships from the same yard. These include ten 16,800 TEU units, six 15,000 TEU vessels, and ten 8,700 TEU ships. Some will be owned by Maersk, while others will operate on long-term charters.
With this latest contract, Maersk will receive more than 30 large LNG-powered ships from New Times Shipbuilding, reinforcing its shift toward cleaner and more efficient operations.
