A possible pirate incident has been reported in the Gulf of Guinea, involving a chemical tanker sailing off the coast of Togo. The Maritime Executive, citing maritime risk consultancy Vanguard Tech, reports that a vessel was allegedly attacked about 56 nautical miles south of Lomé on August 28.
The ship is believed to be the Endo Ponente, a Malta-flagged chemical tanker built in 2010, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. AIS tracking data from Pole Star indicates that the vessel departed anchorage near Lomé in the morning and proceeded south at a steady speed before making a sharp turn in the evening and slowing almost to a stop. Its last AIS transmission was received shortly afterwards.
No official statement has been issued at this time. This remains a developing situation, with further details pending confirmation.
