Viking Cruises has taken delivery of Viking Ptah, its newest Nile River cruise ship, expanding the company’s fleet in Egypt.
The delivery ceremony took place on August 7 at the Massara shipyard in Cairo. The new vessel was purpose-built for the Nile and will join Viking’s fleet of sister ships, including Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Hathor, Viking Sobek, Viking Amun and Viking Sekhmet.
Viking Ptah can accommodate 82 guests in 41 outside staterooms across three decks. The vessel is 71.9 metres long, has a 28-metre beam and a gross tonnage of 3,600. It has a crew of 48.
The vessel will operate Viking’s 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. The programme combines a Nile cruise with hotel stays in Cairo.
The new ship is part of Viking’s broader fleet expansion. Based on its current orderbook, the company expects to take delivery of 20 additional river ships by 2028, nine ocean ships by 2031 and two expedition ships by 2031.
With these additions, Viking expects to operate 114 river ships by 2028. Its ocean and expedition fleet is expected to reach 26 ships by 2031.
