Singapore-based liner operator ONE has ordered six LNG dual-fuel containerships from South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in a deal worth about $1.22 billion.

The vessels will each have a capacity of 15,900 teu and are scheduled for delivery between November 2028 and September 2029. Market sources said the ships will cost around $203.5 million each.

The order continues ONE’s large-scale fleet renewal programme focused on dual-fuel tonnage and lower-emission vessels. The carrier has been steadily expanding its LNG and methanol-capable fleet over the past several years.

Industry reports indicate the latest contract is smaller than originally planned. Earlier discussions linked ONE to a potential order for up to 22 dual-fuel containerships.

The new vessels will join a growing number of alternative-fuel ships already ordered by the company at shipyards in South Korea and China. These include methanol-fuelled containerships under construction at Jiangnan Shipyard and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, as well as previous LNG dual-fuel series ordered at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

HD Hyundai has become one of the leading builders of large LNG dual-fuel containerships as major liner operators continue replacing older conventional tonnage with vessels designed to meet tightening emissions regulations.

ONE was formed by the merger of the container businesses of Mitsui OSK Lines, NYK Line, and K Line. The company currently operates around 280 vessels with a combined capacity exceeding 2 million teu, ranking sixth globally according to Alphaliner data.
