The vessel CARDIUM (flag – Netherlands [NL]) sank on Western Scheldt neat Vlissingen, being en route to Vlissingen with cargo of sand and 2 crew on board. It happened in the afternoon March 9.
Reportedly, there was massive water ingress when the ship sailed into the open, and was caught in heavy seas. One crew was rescued and hospitalized with hypothermia, another is missing, large-scale SAR is under way.
