The fire on board ONE Henry Hudson was contained after a multi-day response in the Port of Los Angeles on Friday. The containership returned to its berth late Wednesday after crews confirmed the vessel’s stability. Firefighters and salvage teams remained alongside during the transit and stayed on standby once the ship was secured.

The fire started on November 21 in lower-deck compartments while the ship was loading cargo. All 23 seafarers evacuated safely. A mid-ship explosion cut power and forced crews to fight the blaze from the pier. The containership had been moved one mile offshore for security reasons.

On Wednesday, longshore crews finished lashing the remaining cargo. Salvors then shifted the ship back to Yusen Terminal to begin discharging fire-damaged and scheduled cargo. All firefighting water remains contained on board and will be pumped ashore for treatment.

Air monitoring continues on the vessel and in nearby port areas, with no unsafe readings reported.

The number of affected containers has not been confirmed. The ship has a capacity of 9,100 TEU, though it carried fewer containers when the fire began. Crew members initially reported the incident as an electrical fire. The Coast Guard and NTSB will investigate the cause.
